Just like honey...

Inspired by a most wonderful gift from my BFF in Spain, I set about making a felt sugar skull badge.
OK This is the first attempt and I guess its pretty shoddy, but I still sorta love it. I think the next one will be even better though and next time I think I will make a design/pattern instead of just blindly sewing. Thats my life though, isnt it?
Don't even talk to me about the wonky mouth. GO WITH IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

He gets on great with all the other skull friends. I was gonna make some sort of pun, but all I could think of was BONING, and no one wants that in their eye socket...

I know, its MASSIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Man About Town Spring/Summer 10

Yup, the collection keeps growing.
The latest additions to my growing pile of printed paper loveliness include (finally!) The Gentlewoman and this season's Arena Homme + (Which continues to be my favourite biannual. If not just my favourite magazine full stop). I also happened upon the new Man About Town - who knew Reading WHSmith could be such a fucking GOLD MINE? (seriously, I usually have to lug all these back from London, so it was so exciting to find them all. Rumour is it (according to Arianne, so we know who to blame if its a lie) theres also Fantastic Man there too, but I didnt see it when I was there. anywayanywayanyway I distract!).
I must admit this is only my second time buying Man About Town, the (first being last season), but I fully intend to keep on buyin', I LOVE it.
I love the typography, and the paper they use smells lovely and is that nice sort of uncoated paper often found in Pop magazine pull outs (know what I mean?). Last season also had a glossy editorial in the centre but this issue is all soft and papery goodness throughout (I really couldnt work out how to articulate that sentence?).
Anyway enough of my stilted vocabularic mumblings (woop for new words, muthafuckers), here are some of my favourite pages...

I know the images are awful. Two words: deal with it.

Heres a video of cover star Aaron Johnson.

Grab the shovel, Harold.

Oh hey, look! Its Arianne dressed as Maude!!This was also part of the exhibition, where Arianne did a Maude inspired speech for the fake funeral of a friend.
She also had her hair up in the Maude plaits but she took it out before I got a chance to harass her for a picture.
I mostly love the liberty print bird dress. Sooo nice.

Funeral

Recently I was involved in a group exhibition, involving a performance as if at a funeral. Although my role in this was teeny tiny, I still got to make and wear a great costume in collaboration with my wonderful friend Char. I'll talk in more detail about the exhibition maybe tomorrow, but for now here are some detail shots from my costume and the performance.
Deflated balloon headpiece, skull necklace and acryllic gem sunglasses by me, Voile shirt (complete with 5 metre long arms, which could either be ruffled like this, or left loose like a train) by Char Outram.
Performance Shot. I had acryllic gem tears!

Grace Jones X Chris Levine

This is some good shit!
I first saw about this last week via Dazeddigital, although I must admit I didn't pay too much attention at the time. However after somehow ending up on artist Chris Levine's website and subsequently the show's website, I've come to see how epic this is!
Using lasers and LEDs, Levine creates these amazing morphing 3D works with none other than the phenomenal Grace Jones as the centrepiece (of course!). They also feature an amazing swarovski bowler hat made by Phillip Treacy. Here are some still images of the works, but I urge you to go to the WEBSITE to get a better picture of the moving images. Better still, visit the exhibition.

Well, you have now.

Its by David Choe, or should I say DAVE MOTHERFUCKIN CHOE! I checked out his WEBSITE and he has some pretty cool shit, although I have to say my favourites are his watercolours, like the Die Antwoord portrait. Heres somma that, hope you enjoy the shit out of it.

My favourite colour is fluorescent beige

I'm probably the last person in the entire world to blog about this, but I just watched PRECIOUS and I just wanted to talk about it, OK?
Its completely strange because for some reason this film has managed to slip through the UK mostly unoticed. Im pretty sure it had limited release at cinemas, and there definiately was not much press about it except in magazines like Dazed.
You know, I have to say I pretty much loved it. Despite feeling completely drained emotionally after it. I also had to pause a few times for a little break. Gabourey Sidibe is totally outstanding as the lead (and deffo should have won the oscar. Its so rare that these types of performances come about, why did they give it to vanilla old Sandra? I still love miss congeniality though but anyway i digress) and Mo'Nique absolutely deserved all the attention her role gained her. Did she actually win every single award she was nominated for? I think its a shame that Paula Patton wasnt nominated for any awards as her role, especially when Mariah Carey was for her teeny tiny part. I also loved all of the girls in Precious' class, especially Joann, whose style is just AWESOME.
Anyway Im starting to feel like Im not saying anything new about this, so Im just gonna leave you with the trailer and urge you to watch if you havent seen already. ALSO the soundtrack is awesommme.
