The Secret Museum

Here comes some amazing images direct from one of my absolute favorite blogs on the interwebs MORBID ANATOMY. The creator of the blog, Joanna Ebenstein has travelled the world in search of "obscure medical museums, cabinets of curiosity, dusty natural history museums, privately-held cabinets, untouched collections, and idiosyncratic assemblages of all sorts, front-stage and back, public and private", in other words fucking amazing shit yo.
These images are currently being shown at a new exhibition The Secret Museum, at the Observatory, Brooklyn, running til June 6th. If youre in NY right now I says GO GO GO.

Grace Jones X Chris Levine

This is some good shit!
I first saw about this last week via Dazeddigital, although I must admit I didn't pay too much attention at the time. However after somehow ending up on artist Chris Levine's website and subsequently the show's website, I've come to see how epic this is!
Using lasers and LEDs, Levine creates these amazing morphing 3D works with none other than the phenomenal Grace Jones as the centrepiece (of course!). They also feature an amazing swarovski bowler hat made by Phillip Treacy. Here are some still images of the works, but I urge you to go to the WEBSITE to get a better picture of the moving images. Better still, visit the exhibition.

The cat with hands

My friend just alerted me to the attention of this fucking wonderful short film by Robert Morgan.
It combines stop motion and live action to eerie and beautiful effect. I fucking love it! Not only does it sit perfectly with my ideal aesthetic, it also suits my current obsession with stop motion!



Below is also the pilot of the film, which is completely stop motion. It was used to describe the atmosphere of the piece of financiers... looks like it did the job!

Its just a mirage...

That last post was a total accidental 'Publish Post' moment, but then I realised I didnt have anything interesting to say anyway that you couldnt read elsewhere so THERE WE GO.
Anway theres a few collections I DO want to talk about. You'll have to forgive if they come in dribs and drabs though, Im a busy bee, and Im about to buzz off to work.

First up, HUSSEIN CHALAYAN.
Hello Hussein, my fashion soulmate, hows it going this season? Pretty rad, RIGHT?

Dear H, you don't have to pretend anymore. I know you pretend to make clothes just for rich women, but I know secretly you just want to make clothes just for me. This is what you should do anyways. At least make me some shiney bergundy chelsea boots yes pls. And a squiggly red snood. Do you think the first few looks are sort of what Alexander Wang was TRYING to do? I mean visually? :)

All kinds of observable differences.

Rodarte for Target lace cardigan, Old old handmedown (from my mum!) long sleeve collared Tshirt.

Ok so heres my accidental ebay purchase... Im not even lying!!! I bidded on it days ago not thinking I would win it, then I sort of regretted bidding since it was an impulse bid and I was thinking 'oh shit i actually don't have anything to wear with this!' pls I was thinking it would be totally feminine and stuff like this. Anyways then I sort of forgot about it and then I got an email from ebay saying Id won the item. ooooooops!
Anyway I have it now, and I would be lying if I said I don't totally love it. Ive been sort of dreaming about owning it ever since it hit the American blogasphere (how do you even spell that?) a few months ago.
Truth is I loved the Rodarte for Target collection. I love all the films it references. I love the colours and the textures. Fuck, I just love Rodarte. For reals. And I guess this is the closest Ill get to owning any of the real thing for a way long time so yeah. Plus I think with the right styling (I did just sort of throw this collared tshirt on for the photos, and my battery died before I got to try it with anything better) it will look good on me. Im sure. I hope. Fuck it Im gonna wear it anyway. Wooohooooo.

Just what I needed.

Rodarte F/W 2010, lovely. I was seriously beginning to worry about you, New York.

The beginning of the collection definately presented all my  favourite looks. It makes me want to throw on like 10 random layers and drape everything over myself.

The above pieces were also stand out for me, I just looove the prints, and how floatyness of them while still having the feeling of being wrapped up tight in a warm blanket. I'd like to run through a frosty wood wearing something like this, you know what I mean?

 

On the Style.com review it mentions about how they were thinking about thier mexican heritage for this collection, and I love how theyve translated that feeling. I guess it would have been easy for them to go down some tacky poncho dress route, but instead they were inspired by ideas of traditional craft, and I loves that. I also love the subtle mexican totem eagle pattern on the top left look? Well thats how I translate it anyway?


 

OK, so maybe towards the end of the show there were pieces that might have been filla rather than killa (not the pieces above, Ilovethem), but there was still plenty that I adored so this has definately been one of  the best of NY so far. Like I said before, maybe I just need to snap out of this lull feeling.
