Fine Art Finalists 2010: The Catalogue.
It might sound bad - and I don't mean to ditract from the finalists' work, which obviously was the whole point of the degree show - but one of the things I was most excited about was this years catalogue. It.is.amazing. It seems my obsession with magazines extends further than the glossies and hi-fash, gaah!
The layout this year moved away sharply from previous years, and instead of just a place to print the finalists names, it is almost a work of curatorial art in itself.
The catalogue begins and ends with double page spreads showcasing the finalists previous works, while the middle houses the more traditional list of finalists, each with thier own page. What makes it extra special is the QUALITY of the book - the paper is reminiscent of the uncoated pages of Man About Town, while the layout was definately The Gentlewoman/ Fantastic Man. It is designed by finalists Owen Chapman and Christian Tilt, and you can tell theyve put a shit load of work into it. It has deffo got me inspired for next year! Here are my favourite pages.
And my very favourite page (By Abi Bryant):

Fine Art Finalists 2010: Christian Tilt.
One thing I dislike - which I think you see alot of in degree shows - is when artists create an installation around their work just for the sake of creating an installation, which is always the great crowd pleaser.
Luckily Christian Tilt has been creating installation based work for a while now, so it deffo gets my stamp of approval (as if its needed...).
For the degree show he undertook a mammoth task of transforming an old ratty lecture room into a complete new environment of wonder. Based on the idea of The Well - 'the birthplace of the online community movement' - the first forum of the interwebs, where people came together to talk about all kinds of weird and wonderful subjects. Using this idea he created an artist's commune divided into pods showcasing work in all mediums but still utilising the installation format they were made to look as if the artist had been living there while creating the works.
It is insane the amount of work which went into it. I saw it first hand as me and Arianne were lucky enough (I think) to be asked by Chris to design one of the artist's pods - Not that being a part of the work has influenced my opnions of the work, it truly is a wonderful piece. Stepping into the room transported you directly into a new place, while still maintaining its status as an artwork allowing the viewer to considor the context and apreciate the concept.
(There deffo was not a kitchen in this room before Christian built one...)
Christian is currently working on a website so watch this space. He will also be involved in a real gallery (!!!) show in London (!!!!!!) at the end of July along with a few other graduates. ILL KEEP U POSTED YA.

IlovePamelaLove
Well, there was me all about to give up on Stylelikeu when they hit us with the best ever. Ever since I dared to post a negative - yet constructive - comment about one of its featured rich spoilt brats with no taste and no style and no personality and faced a barrage of personal abuse, Ive sort of gone off the place. I realised that everyone they featured merged into one... "yah I really loooove this because I like think like its so DIFFERENT and like I love the like details and like I put studs on everything and like Im only 19 but like Im so rich I can live in this massive apartment with all these clothes and I dont have to work hard for anything and like, dont you think thats the coolest?".... yeah it pisses me off. There have been some really cool styled people on there, but its sort of started to not be about style at all anymore. Anyway I never meant for this to turn into a personal rant aout the site because ok yah I still have it on my bloglovin and check it from time to time and sometimes, just sometimes they find the right sort of people who I actually WANT to get to know, who are ACTUALLY interesting and actually have great pieces that are really well styled and you can tell they CARE.
Here is PAMELA LOVE. I think this is like the third time Ive gone on about how much I love her designs, so its awesome to get to see more of the person behind the amazing designs. Enjoy!

FEEL THE CREAM
WOW I HAVENT TALKED ABOUT PEACHES IN FOREVER. You know I met her once and it was really cool but really embarrassing ebcause I think I am just the most unsubtle person ever, but then that same day I saw her play and it was TOO FUCKING AWESOME. Anyway if you have never been to a Peaches show before you just totally have to.
As part of the Creators Project theres a totally totally awesome interview fresh on the interwebs. When she talks she makes me want to create something amazing and then BURN IT! Like totally in a good way. The best bit is when shes talking about technology and all the cool things she does on stage. IT BLOWZ MY BRAINZ.
The Creators project is this awesome new online space which brings together all this amazing creative energy from around the world, cuts out all the shit and then presents it for us at our own convenience, mainly in video form, on their website HERE. Its a really exciting place, bookmark that shit.
OK IVE TALKED ENOUGH, WATCH THIS AND BE AWESOME!

Can't get enough of life to keep me satisfied
The six shirts I got at the Angels sale. The first and last are my favourites, the denim one is distressed beyond belief, and was probably the dirtiest ripped smellyiest thing at the whole sale, but I fell in love so there you go. I have actually already worn it out, so there we go. The last is just really nice and is going to go with my All Saints pullover like a dream. The checked ones I guess are pretty generic but they still remain a layering staple for me. The AF one is an air hostess shirt - I guess Air France? And the brown one is just nice by itself.

I am so all over this.
So a few bits of pre-fall goodness have been making thier way onto the interwebs via the most stylish of bloggybloggers so Im sure this is late new by now, but when I saw the Proenza Schouler shots, I just had to show you guys here. I AM SO for this.
For me it sort of reminds me of the end of the Heathers when Winona Ryder goes up to that girl and kisses her on the cheek and shes all burn and battered and crazy and wearing that huge blazer and looking cool. But sort of a more polished gothy version of that. Do you understand me?
I just love the length and shape of this bat wing jumper over the shirt. You know I am all about jumpers over shirts in the winter (layers and all that) but it looks like Ill soon be buying an oversized black one and taking my scissors and sewing machine to it. If you look closelty and tilt your screens a bit, I think its also sort of ribbed? paired with the high waisted trousers is rad. Also I just love the electric blue leather, thats actually so crazy bones.
These are my two favourites of the peek. Two tone fur preppy jacket? O yes pleeease. And I just love how rad the oversized duffel with the grey and tarten is. I always love it when a look I love from womenswear is sort of just androgenous enough for me to be able to adapt it easily for me, and I think this is a good example and Im definately going to have it in my head next time I go shopping.

Arielle de Pinto - make me a Monster
Hey Mofos. OK yes I am back but I am half way through this bastard essay (1000 words left ugh) so I do deserve a break. And also do you know how annoying it is trying to write an essay with no backspace key, no left key and a green line permenantly down your screen? it is very annoying.
SO do you remember that mask I knitted a while ago? Well I was just perusing the interwebs, when I came across (via AnOther Loves) the wonderful work of jewellry designer Arielle de Pinto. WOW! She has created this completely amazing hand made technique working with metal, where I guess she sort of knits it? or like crochet? I literally have no idea, but it is so beautiful. Sort of like when you go into antique shops, like the sort of ones that just have rooms and rooms of assorted junk, and like in the corner you find this one beautiful musty dusty creation and its just lovely. yeah, thats what its like. The new 2010 collection carries over key styles and looks from the 2009 collection, however with the help of a really stunning look book, it is like the pieces are compleely transformed into something from a weetzie bat dream. Im especially drawn to the monster mask, but I would love any other of the pieces, so gooood.
