I just missed your heart.

I Just saw HANNA and all I pretty much think is YOU HAVE TO SEE THIS.
Honestly, it is SO GOOD. There is so much great visual imagary in it, wonderful acting (from Saoirse Ronan and Cate Blanchette in particular), some fantastic costume, an invigorating soundtrack (courtesy of the Chemical Brothers), and most importantly an exciting, strange and wonderful story.
I think Elizabeth at White Lightening was so right when she talked about it and how it made her want to go fuck shit up. Literally I could do that right now. I sort of feel like running right into traffic and then right onto the car as it moves towards me and then jump onto the next one and smash some stuff because I CAN DO ANYTHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Also I should mention the amazing sets and locations featured in the film, particuarly in the final scenes. I don't want to give anything away but any film that features beautiful fog-filled-abandoned-overgrown-dinosaur-theme-park rollercoasters is sure to be A DREAM.

Great Yarmouth

Great Yarmouth will never not be my favourite place on earth. One visit a year is enough though.

Seamus Murphy for PJ Harvey

Seamus Murphy has created a video for each of the songs on PJ Harvey's new album and I think the collaboration is so wonderful and so perfect it has brought a completely new element to Let England Shake which makes me love it even more. There is so much beautiful imagary cut and pasted into each film, with such a tender quality, I feel I can completely understand his eye and why each shot was chosen.
So far The Colour of the Earth (above) is my favourite of the films, I love the awkwardness of the opening shot, and then all of the shots of the animals - both alive and dead - speak to me in many different ways. So far 8 of the 12 are available to view through PJ's youtube, and Im sure the rest will follow shortly. There is an interview with Murphy on the AnOther website, while you can view some of his photography from recent exhibition A Darkness Visible: Afghanistan here.

BJORK: BIOPHILIA

OMG, dont often make these sorts of fanboy posts (not for ages at least!), but I just read the press release for Bjork's music residency in Manchester, and now I'm FREAKING OUT!!!!

Manchester International Festival welcomes Björk to Manchester for the world premiere of her Biophilia live show.
Björk will be at MIF for a three-week residency; six intimate shows in the striking space of Campfield Market Hall for audiences of 1800, her first UK dates in over three years.
Where do music, nature and technology meet? Björk introduces Biophilia, an extraordinary answer to this fascinating question and her most ambitious and exciting work to date. A multi-media project encompassing music, apps, internet, installations and live shows, Biophilia celebrates how sound works in nature, exploring the infinite expanse of the universe, from planetary systems to atomic structure...
For these six special shows, Björk will be performing new tracks from the forthcoming Biophilia studio album as well as music from her genre-defying back catalogue with a small group of unique musical collaborators. The show will feature a range of specially conceived and crafted instruments, among them a bespoke digitally-controlled pipe organ; a 30 foot pendulum that harnesses the earths gravitational pull to create musical patterns - creating a unique bridge between the ancient and the modern; a bespoke gamelan-celeste hybrid; and a one-off extraordinary pin barrel harp. These devices make visible some of the physical processes that are the subject matter of tracks.
Literally I MUST GO! Just the description of the instruments is beautiful enough 'A 30 foot pendulum that harnesses the earths gravitational pull'... jesus CHRIST that is INTENSE.

It reminds me of one of the opening paragraph's in Jonathon Safran Foer's Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close;

What about little microphones? What if everyone swallowed them, and they played the sounds of our hearts through little speakers, which could be in the pouches of our overalls? When you skateboard down the street at night you could hear everyone's heartbeat, and they could hear yours, sort of like sonar. One weird thing is, I wonder if everyone's hearts would start to beat at the same time, like how women who live together have their menstrual periods at the same time... That would be so weird, except that the place in the hospital where babies are born would sound like a crystal chandelier in a houseboat, because the babies wouldn't have had time to match up their heartbeats yet. And at the finish line at the end of the New York City Marathon it would sound like war.

I AM VERY EXCITED.

oh-oh-oh I'm on fire

^^^ from last night... I didnt take this... but yeah yay!!!!

OH MAN YOU TOTALLY HAVE TO GO SEE BAT FOR LASHES. srsly she is absolutly one of my favourite live performers, she is amaaazing. Her stage presence is like electricity (wow cliche, whatev), and her voice is just as good if not better than on record. And her costume was amazing too. I know thats not really important to her but I mean I guess it does create the whole live experience. basically it was a black long sleeve leotard, which I dont usually co-sign so much as a stage costume since everyone does it and its sort of boring, but she did it way well. like i said it was long sleeve with cool vertical chest panels, cool shoulers and the back was all drapey and sweet as. I dont really know who it was by but it was quite familiar to me. Anyway what made her outfit really special was this amaaaazing sparkly cape she wore over the top. I LOVE CAPES. like really so bad. so that was rad rad rad. and her band was pretty sharp too.
Anyway her music is so good live definately even better than on record. its like tribal with big drums and electricity (did i already say that?) and just awesome awesome awesome. I cant tell you enough how awesome it was. I didnt have my camera (BS) so no pics from the gig until somewhere else does a review and i can steal them.
OH and she did this amazing encore where she did a duet with a recording of herself on video. difficult to explain how cool this was.

Anyway I am just now trying to listen to her again but its a battle.

STOP PRESS!!! just found this recording of her encoure on youtube. its not the best recording but you get the idea yo.

(shes changed out of her costume by now)

more vids from last night: (WAY GOOD QUALITY!)
